The label owned by Skrillex has just released Free Treats Vol 2. Increasing the number of free tracks from 3 in volume one to 19 in this volume, which should make you happy, if you like free music, the .zip file which you can download directly from Beatport, via this link, it has both the lossless AIFF format and lossy 320kbps MP3 files within the zip folder.
For the most part the compilation features the labels’ signature heavy electro house sound along with a few other tracks showing the diversity in the label, such as dubstep, drum & bass and, glitch hop.

Some artists featured on this free compilation include OWLSA regulars Skrillex, KOAN Sound, Porter Robinson and Nick Thayer. Some others include: tech house artist Style of Eye and dubstep/grime artist Plastician and Zardonic among others.
Some of my favourites of the compilation:
Plastician – Alone Time (Original Mix)

I thought this was pretty funny, Aoki is known for being pretty crazy at his shows, although I’ve never had cake thrown at me, I have gotten some Grey Goose from the man himself… Parents just don’t understand! Although, I don’t really know how I’d feel about getting cake thrown at me, but when it’s an all ages show I guess you can’t really be pouring Grey Goose into people’s mouths..
Party Onnnn
One of my favourite fidget-house duos, Jack Beats have just released their second ‘Dubs for Clubs’ titled ‘Deeper’

I could definitely see myself dropping these in the club, these guys rocked WEMF 2011 pretty hard, and on that tour they were dropping these tunes, now made publicly available for free… they utilize the LFO wobble perfectly, none of that ear-bleeding Skrillex stuff…A nice balance of bass+wobble that the club crowd could appreciate.
Check out the tunes below, they are available for FREE download on their Soundcloud page!

Welsh Drum & Bass master High Contrast (Lincoln Barrett) has returned to us after a break from the studio with his fourth artist album with Hospital Records titled “The Agony & The Ecstasy.” The Album isn’t due to drop for a few more weeks, but hey that’s just around the corner so lets take a look at a couple of the released singles.
The first single from the album is titled “The First Note is Silent” and is an interesting collaboration with stadium trance DJ Tiësto and legendary UK electro warriors Underworld. To listen to the song isn’t enough seeing as the video to go along with it is a real peice of art. Usually I don’t give a shit about music videos these days as they all seem to be a waste of time.. However, High Contrast has directed, photographed and edited this video himself and I found that I couldn’t turn away from it. Chaos, death, sadness, laughter, and the act of giving up – are all depicted through different individuals. A man who is ill and sets himself on fire, a little girl visiting a grave with her mother, kids skateboarding , riot police getting beaten – it all comes together in this video, at least for me it does. Whatever though, that’s what I’m seeing from it and I’m digging it.
Interview with Annie Mac and High Contrast about creating “The First Note is Silent”
The album titled track, “The Agaony and the Ecstacy” featuring yet another Welsh, Selah Corbin, brings a spooky vibe to the song. Have you heard many drum & bass songs that start off with an organ? Nah. High Contrasts brings his ‘A’ game for this track and it’s bone tinglin’. The combination of synths, strings, bass and energy that is created throughout “The Agony and the Ecstacy” makes it clear why it’s the album track. And yet again, another good video to match a catchy beat directed and edited by Lincoln Barrett.
You can pre-order High Contrast’s “The Agony and the Ecstasy” from Itunes or from Hospital Records. Both shops provide previews of the tracks, so go check em’ out and see what you think.

Over the holidays Skream released what he’s said is his last Freezism album. All of these tracks were made between 2004-2006. There were made when Oliver Jones was only 17/18 and he mentions they have a much different sound that the stuff out today. Kind of refreshing if you ask me.

Above & Beyond? Really, that’s who people voted for!?! SBTRKT all the way!

I can’t judge though, I only listened to a snippet of their Essential Mix, I’m sure it was banging. I’m also pretty sure that they won essential mix of the year quite a few years back. Here is the mix if you want to have a listen, I’m going to.

And here’s the one I thought was the best of 2011
Dillon Francis continues has absolute destruction of original tracks (this is good). The latest victim is Chuckie – Who is Ready to Jump, The remix by Dillon Francis completely changes the whole dynamic of the song and slows it down to 70 BPM. He is also one of the leaders in the moohbahton movement with super slow house music somewhere around 110-120 BPM.
